Filip Turek commented on the situation surrounding Petr Macinka. On Tuesday, the foreign minister was accused by President Petr Pavel of blackmail on the grounds that he wrote messages to his advisor Petr Kolář in which he tried to pressure Hrad to appoint Filip Turek as Minister of the Environment. Turek told eXtra.cz that the president is oversensitive and that there is no question of blackmail.
Filip Turek defended Petr Macinka , who was accused of blackmail by Petr Pavel on Tuesday morning . "There is no blackmail involved. The president is paradoxically very sensitive given his past. As a man, he should not publish private correspondence, it is very rude," said MP and Green Deal representative Filip Turek for eXtra.cz.
The President will address the situation
As the president stated at a press conference, he will discuss the situation with his lawyers. "I consider the information contained in the messages to be extremely serious. That is why I have decided to publish it in its entirety. I consider the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the text messages to be an attempt at blackmail. I consider this to be inadmissible and absolutely unacceptable in our democratic conditions," he said.
"At the same time, I consider it important that citizens see how elected representatives represent their interests and in what way. Such actions can also damage the image and credibility of the Czech Republic abroad. I can say for myself that intimidation does not apply to me and I will continue to be guided primarily by the Constitution and the interests of the Czech Republic," added President Petr Pavel.
Babiš defended Macinka
On the other hand, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš maintains a similar stance to Filip Turek. "I have always tried to have correct relations with the President, I have never commented on our disagreements publicly and have tried to resolve everything behind closed doors. Mr. Macinka's words are unfortunate, I would certainly not communicate like this, it is not my style," he said in a Facebook post.
"Mr. Macinka is trying to push Filip Turk into the position of minister, whom the president has long rejected, which is the cause of all the clashes between him and Motoristy. It was in private communication with his advisor, so it is certainly not blackmail. I think that the first thing to do is to calm down emotions on both sides and start communicating normally again," added Andrej Babiš.
