Motorists’ Most Expensive Election Campaign

Filip Turek, together with the Motorists movement, kicked off the campaign in the Central Bohemian Region in grand style. He and Richard Chlad arrived in Mladá Boleslav in luxury Bugatti cars. But that wasn’t the only stop where the two men caused a stir. For several minutes, they blocked one of Prague’s streets, drawing attention with their vehicles. The editorial team of eXtra.cz was there to witness it.

Richard Chlad and Filip Turek sparked major commotion in the streets of Prague outside the FU club. They showed up in luxury cars that rank among the most expensive and fastest in the world. The billionaire drove a Bugatti Chiron, while the politician arrived in a Bugatti Veyron.

Although they arrived in the world’s fastest cars, on the highway they behaved responsibly. “We strictly followed the rules. Not only did Filip ask me to, but the attention, the pressure, and the public chase he’s under is enormous. On the highway, even vans were overtaking us and taking photos. We were the two slowest cars alongside the trucks. The fastest cars in the world, yet the slowest on Czech highways. So, we stuck to 130 km/h, and both we and the fans—drivers staring in disbelief at the convoy—enjoyed the ride,” Chlad told eXtra.cz.

Both men arrived in great spirits and ordered non-alcoholic mojitos at the club. “We had a drink to celebrate the fact that the European Commission is finally being challenged. Including automakers and their CEOs, and that intense negotiations are starting on lifting the ban on combustion engines. Basically, the very issue Filip opened up and declared three years ago, and which he later brought to the European Parliament,” Chlad said.

The Bugatti Veyron and its successor, the Chiron, are among the absolute top in the automotive world. While they’re being showcased as part of the campaign, otherwise their owners almost never drive them. “The cars aren’t insured. They just have liability coverage and a highway vignette. As part of the campaign, they’ll cover 500 kilometers each per year,” Chlad explained.

Trusting Only Three People

Turek and Chlad share a friendship as well as mutual trust. That’s precisely why the billionaire handed over his luxury vehicle to the politician. “I trust Filip, he’s an excellent driver—regardless of how the mainstream paints him as a reckless maniac on the road. Besides Filip, my son, and my wife, I wouldn’t let anyone else touch that car,” he said.
